The 5th international pairs, teams and individuals boccia tournament - Boccia Tatra Cup (BTC) - was held from 13th to 17th June 2019 , in the sports hall of Alexandra Wellness Hotel (www.alexandrawellnesshotel.sk) in Liptovský Ján. Boccia is a paralympic, indoor sport based on the principle of throwing balls to the central goal (Jack), by its nature similar to pétanque or curling. The main organizer of the tournament was ZOM Prešov - an association of people with disabilities (www.zompresov.sk).

International pairs and teams tournament took place on Friday 14.06.2019. The BTC Tournament of Pairs and Teams is the first major international tournament of couples and teams internationally in Slovakia, whose current second year is, hopefully, the beginning of a tradition. In pairs - two against two - BC3 (pairs BC3) and BC4 (pairs BC4) compete. In teams - three against three - the category BC1 and BC2 compete (at least one player in the team must be BC1 and a female must also be part of the team). The tournament was attended by 53 players from 6 countries: Slovakia (19), Czech Republic (14), Hungary (8), Poland (6), Croatia (4), United Kingdom (England - 1, Wales - 1). Some couples and teams were also built of players from multiple countries.

The BTC 2019 Individual Tournament was a friendly, not scored but high quality and prestigious tournament. It was attended by players from the top of the world ranking as well as players from the national level. A total of 54 players from eight countries participated this year: Slovakia (18), Czech Republic (15), Hungary (8), Poland (5), England (1), Wales (1), Croatia (4), Belgium ( 1). All categories of

The quality of the tournament is also evidenced by the participation of players in the world ranking, among them Peška Adam CZE BC3 (5), Mezík Róbert SVK BC2 (6), Davor Komar, CRO BC4 (6), Samuel Andrejčík SVK BC4 (11) ), Rombouts Francis BEL BC2 (16).



The tradition of quality, international tournament in our region continues. The international boccia tournament in Slovakia is getting known not only in the neighbouring countries, but also in the wider surroundings. Although the Slovak national team is very successful in the world boccia, majority of Slovak players doesn’t have the opportunity to play with high-quality foreign players. Similar it is with foreign participants from the national level. For many boccia players, the chance to play with different players to those they are normally used to in national competitions, is a valuable and important experience.

The international tournament consisted of matches in basic groups and the following knockout, final matches. The sports hall, connected to the hotel, is accessible and accessible to the disabled. It was played on seven courts with a laminate - floating flooring. Accommodation of participants and organizers was provided in Alexandra Wellness Hotel and in Avena Relax Hotel in Liptovský Ján.
